Are foreign driver’s licenses valid?

Yes. Due to the wide array of international languages, be sure to also bring an international driver’s license to ensure the staff at our local office will be able to read and understand your license.

CREDIT CARD IMPRINT:

All rentals are subject to the full rental agreement terms and conditions at the time of rental. A credit card imprint will be taken at the start of all rentals for security reasons, even when a voucher covers the cost of the rental. This credit card imprint may be used to pay all extra charges including extra insurance, parking fines, fuel, damages or any cost due to the rented car as a result of the renters use of the car. At the time of pick up you will be required to leave a deposit to cover the value of the insurance excess. The blocked amount will be returned in full at the end of the rental if the vehicle is returned in the same condition as rented. Please note due to the foreign exchange rate and other possible banking charges the customer will have to take responsibility for the possible expenses involved when the deposit/excess is charged/refund. 

Do you have cars with automatic transmissions?

Yes, we offer automatic transmissions in B+, D+, E, and F.

How can I be sure the car I want is available?

We cannot guarantee a specific brand or model, but will always guarantee the category of car you have booked.

I have booked a pick-up at the airport, where do I get my car?

When entering the arrival hall in Keflavík International airport, please look for a staff member from Auto Car rental with a Yellow Auto Car rental sign. He will take you to our office to finish all the paperwork and give you the car.

If I am planning on taking a highland road, what car do I need to rent?

For high land roads you will need 4x4 or 4WD. Our 4x4 cars are in groups D, E,F and G.

If I return the car early, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for unused or partly used car hire vouchers, unless the cancellation or change has been made prior to your pick-up date.

What are your operating hours?

Our superior pick-up service is conveniently available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can be reached by phone at 00 354 557 5750 or you can email us at auto@auto.is.
Our office hours in Keflavik are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays.

What documentation is needed to rent a car?

In order to rent a car, all drivers will need:

  • A valid passport
  • A valid driver’s license
  • A valid credit card (not a prepaid credit card)

What is included in the rental price?

With your rental, you receive unlimited mileage, 24% VAT (tax), Third Party Liability and a Collision Damage Waiver is included in our price.

What is the age requirement for renting cars?

The renter must be 20 years old to rent 2WD and 23 years old to rent a 4x4 vehicle. 

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period is 48 hours

What is your cancellation policy

Cancel 15 days prior or more and get a full refund (100%).

Cancel 8-14 days before and get 70% refund.

Cancel in the last week before your rental and get 30% refund.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major credit cards and offer the ability to pay for your rental when you book online. If you would prefer to pay when you arrive, please contact us at auto@auto.is

Where do I return my car at the airport?

When you are ready to depart, you will need to take the car to our office in Keflavik, near the airport. An Auto Car Rental employee will drop you off directly at the airport for your departure.

Where is Auto Car Rental located?

Our main office is located in Keflavik at Vesturbraut 10, 230 Keflavik, Iceland

Note that the international airport is located in Keflavik but not in Reykjavik (which is 30 min away from the airport.)

Will the rental car have winter tires during the winter months?

Yes, all of our vehicles come equipped with winter tires during winter time.
